Elder Abuse, Neglect, Exploitation & Domestic Violence

Stop Abuse in the Community

APS - Adult Protective Services are provided for seniors and people with disabilities, who are at least 18 years old and are victims of actual or potential abuse, neglect, or exploitation.  The mistreatment may be caused by others or self.  Services are provided to the adult to meet basic needs and to ensure safety.

Safe Harbor, Inc.

Services: provides temporary, emergency shelter for victims of domestic violence and their children.  Lodging, food, personal items, clothing, and other necessities are provided.  Residents receive counseling, case management, support group therapy and living skills training.

Let’s Do Recovery House

Service: Homeless women and families that suffer from alcohol and substance abuse.

Miracle Hill Renewal Center

Salvation Army - Greenville

Services: helps with utilities and rent; provides clothing (5 changes of clothes per person per 3 months), has transitional housing (first week is free, then $7 per day if single; families with children pay $25.00 per week), food, emergency shelter for men and women, helps with prescriptions, but only up to $125 per person per year and helps with transportation
Exception/ Criteria: need cut off notice or eviction notice to receive help.  Must have proof of address, proof of income, and Social Security card for every individual in the household, photo identification for the head of household.

Senior Independent Living Support Services

Senior Action

Services: Senior Action, Inc., is a non-profit agency that provides programs and services to promote the health and well-being of older adults who live in Greenville County. Services offered through the Senior Action Main Office/Orchard Park Senior Center include: on-site group meals; computer and language classes (intro to computers, email, file management, Word, Excel, Internet, Facebook, viruses/spyware, Spanish, German, etc.); dancing and music programs (line dancing, ballroom dancing, Scottish country dancing, ukulele, senior concert band, etc.); card and games groups (bridge, canasta, pinochle, mah-jongg, dominoes, bunco, etc.); seminars/guest speakers on topics of interest to seniors (long-term care, Medicare, financial management, coping with aging, health issues, etc.); fitness programs and classes (aerobics, yoga, tai chi, flexibility and fitness exercises, nutrition, hiking club, etc.); home care vouchers (4 hours of light housekeeping, errand-running, lawn care, etc.); vouchers for geriatric care management; bereavement and veterans' support groups; and others.
