The
Planning Services Division has the dual function of addressing
issues of regional impact, as well as providing consulting
services and technical assistance to local governments.
Economic development, treansportation, and water quality
are areas in which we have focused efforts in recent years.
The COG's Regional Strategic Plan for Economic Development
targets infrastructure and resource development that is
necessary to attract and retain high quality industries.
The Appalachian Regional Rural Transportation Improvement
Plan is an on-going seven year, $155 million road development
program. Our regional water quality planning efforts
seek to balance the preservation of water resources with
satisfying increasing demands for residential,
commercial, and industrial usage. The Planning
Services
division also provides a broad range of expertise to local
governments, including comprehensive planning, zoning and
land use regulation, planning administration, economic and
community development, historic preservation, and community
revitalization planning. In addition, our staff provides
educational programs for elected officials, planning commission,
and boards of appeals.
